Ms. LaWanda Yvette Hines is a dedicated community servant and longtime member of First Central Baptist Church, where she actively supports the church’s mission and ministries. She currently serves on the Diaconate Board and also serves as Treasurer of First Central Economic Development Inc. (FCEDI), contributing her organizational skills and leadership to support the organization’s economic development initiatives.
Ms. Hines worked in the fashion industry for more than 35 years as a sample cutter, bringing precision, discipline, and strong technical skills to her profession. After being laid off from the industry, she chose to pursue new opportunities to serve others and further contribute to her community.
She later earned her Teacher’s Certification and began working as a teacher’s assistant with AHRC schools, including Brooklyn Blue Feather and Staten Island Prep for Autistic Children. In this role, she discovered a deep passion for working with children and supporting students with special needs, describing the experience as one of the most fulfilling chapters of her career.
Ms. Hines also received training in drug counseling through the Resource Training Center in Manhattan and volunteered as a counselor at Daytop Forest Avenue in Staten Island, providing support to individuals overcoming substance use challenges.
She is a graduate of the High School of Fashion Industries and holds an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Ms. Hines is the proud mother of her daughter, Nyeshia L. Hines, and remains deeply committed to service, faith, and community.
